A TAUNTON musician is a member of the first band to be signed to a new label by the makers of a Channel 4 programme.
19-year-old James Tomlinson is lead guitarist of Paper Heroes, Skinslife Records' first signing.
The record label has been formed from the popular teenage series SKINS on E4, which tackles issues such as underage sex, drugs and eating disorders.
James, who lives in Taunton, attended The Castle School and Richard Huish College before going to the University of Westminster where the band formed.
In January Paper Heroes entered a competition on the SkinsLife website and within a week was selected to be played on episode 9 of Skins which aired in April.
Skinslife Records is a singles download only label which intends to showcase new artists to a wider audience and springboard them towards a big record deal and stardom.
Geoff Weedon, Paper Heroes' manager and father of lead vocalist and guitarist Matt Weedon, said: "The band is going fantastically well.
"They've taken a year out of university to pursue the band and if it takes off I don't think they'll go back.
"Hopefully they will be another successful band from the South West."
The band is in the process of completing an album of songs and will be touring in the summer to promote their debut single, Jenny Jones, which is out in October.
