Mental health provider wins foundation statuts
SOMERSET'S main provider of adult mental healthcare and services to the learning disabled has been granted NHS Foundation Trust status.
The Somerset Partnership NHS and Social Care Trust will become Somerset Partnership NHS Foundation Trust following Friday's announcement.
Members of the public can sign up to help in the decision making process of the trust's services.
Membership is free and places no obligation on members - they will receive regular information about the work of the trust and can be eligible to stand for election to its members council.
Trust chairman Linda Nash, said: "This is such good news for the future development of mental health services in Somerset.
"With one in four people experiencing some form of mental ill health in their lives, foundation trust status will now offer us the opportunity to further develop our services and in a way which better reflects the needs of local people."
Trust chief executive Edward Colgan said: "This is the culmination of an enormous amount of hard work and this success is to the credit of all our staff, our management team and the many members of the public who have supported our bid for foundation status.
"As an organisation we have already shown we are consistently performing to the highest standards, resulting in a Healthcare Commission service rating of excellent' for the last two years.
"The enhanced freedoms that foundation trust status brings us means we have the opportunity to tailor services to better meet the needs of individuals."
