Life in the fast lane
Tracy outside the Hothouse
Tracy outside the Hothouse

LIFE in the fast lane seems to be suiting a student from Taunton's Somerset College - in more ways than one!

Harley Davidson-loving graphic designer Tracy Kearley, aged 35, from Taunton is the first person to launch her business at the college's Hot House.

The Hot House is an innovative scheme run and managed by the Somerset Centre for Enterprise based at the main campus in Wellington Road.

It supports students who have studied at the college and want to set up their own business by providing office space at affordable rents as well as offering a range of additional facilities, resources and advice when they start up their businesses.

Tracy, who gained a HNC in graphic design at the college, said: "My business has really taken off since I made the decision to run it from the Hot House rather than from home.

"I took the decision to rent office space here because of all of the help and advice and support which is offered.

"The business was growing and I needed a more professional base than home and it seemed the perfect solution."

Not only is Tracy the first person to take up residency at the Hot House she is also running the UK's first magazine for female motorbike enthusiasts from the Hot House base.

"Bikeress is a magazine aimed purely at women motorbike enthusiasts," she explained.

"Having been a biker for the last nine years, I had the idea of producing a bike magazine for women as there wasn't anything like it on the market.

"Its aim is to become part of every bikeress's life creating a community and getting the readers involved with the magazine."

More than 250 female bike enthusiasts already subscribe to the magazine which is produced quarterly and has now been running for almost a year.
