Yeovil Town need more goals!
Defender Terry Skiverton was Yeovil Town's second highest-scorer during the season
Defender Terry Skiverton was Yeovil Town's second highest-scorer during the season

YOU do not have to be a football genius to work out that one of Yeovil Town's biggest problems during the 2007-08 season was the lack of goals scored by the Glovers.

Just 38 goals scored from 46 League One fixtures was a pitiful return and it speaks volumes when centre-half and club skipper Terry Skiverton was the Glovers' second highest goalscorer with five goals. Only striker Lloyd Owusu topped that with nine league goals.

Yeovil's 38 goals was the worst of any club in League One and they failed to score in 22 of their fixtures - another "worst" for the league.

It is something that Yeovil boss Russell Slade will obviously realise will need to improve if his side are to do better next term.

League One champions Swansea City scored the most goals in the division with 82, while play-off sides Leeds United and Southend United netted 72 and 70 goals respectively.

All three of those clubs failed to score in just six matches during the season - the best in the league.

Ironically, based on statistics on points gained in games where teams failed to score, Southend lost all six of their blank games.

Yeovil, however, picked up five points from the five 0-0 draws they achieved during the season against Luton Town on October 2, Leyton Orient on December 22, Oldham Athletic on January 19, Gillingham on March 1 and Bristol Rovers on March 29.
